Cards on IM apps & Social Media

When sharing links to a page on your Potion site, most messaging apps and social media platform will expand that link into a card. That card typically shows an image and a title.

Setting the card title

Potion will set cards to use the same title as your page. As explained in icon Managing content for SEO, that title defaults to the title of your page in Notion but you can set a different one using the potion:title command or by setting the potion:title property if your site is built from a wiki.

Setting the card image

Potion allows you to set the image to show up on the social card. There are two options:

  1. Set a cover image for the page in Notion. Try sharing a link to this page in a messaging app or social media post, you will see the cover image appear on the card.
  1. Add a potion:card:image command (see icon Commands) in your page with the desired image.

Note that if a page has a potion:card:image command in its content as well as a cover image, the potion:card:image wins.

Fallbacks

If you share a link to a page that has neither a cover image nor a potion:card:image command in its content, Potion will fall back to the image set for the parent page all the way back to the root of your site.

Try sharing a link to other guides on this site. Since they don’t have their own image set, the card will show the image of the parent page: https://beta.onpotion.com/guides.
