Managing content for SEO
Potion lets you manage content from SEO directly from within Notion. You no longer need to login Potion to create and edit that content 🤩.
Page Title
Every web pages has a title which appears in browser tabs and search engines. By default, Potion will use the title of the Notion page as the title of the web page it creates from it.
There are two ways you can override that default:
- If your site was created from a Notion Wiki, it will have a potion:title property. Set it to the desired title.
- Create a callout block whose content starts with
potion:title
.
Meta Description
A unique and comprehensive description of your page’s content with relevant keywords is important for SEO. You should set a description for all pages you hope will rank well on search engines.
Like the page title, there are two ways you can set your meta description right from Notion:
- If your site was created from a Notion Wiki, it will have a potion:description property. The value of that property will be inserted in the page header as the description meta tag.
- Create a callout block whose content starts with
potion:description
.
As an example, we created a description for the current page and set it in a callout that starts with potion:description
. Since Potion interpreted that callout as a command block, you can’t see it on the page. However, if you use the view source option of your browser for this page, you’ll see the meta description tag in the header set to this value.
URL slugs
Another important factor in SEO is the URL of your pages. By default, Potion generates a URL slug based on the title of the Notion page and includes the parent’s title to form nested URLs.
